Employment law specialist Charles McGuinness joins Kathryn to talk about the rights and responsibilities of both employers and employees when going through the redundancy process.

He opens with general discussion of redundancy and employment law update regarding key cases, with emphasis on procedural fairness and justification of redundancies. 

He also touches on a case "New Zealand Steel Ltd v Haddad" from 2023, in which a decision to disestablish Mr Haddad's role was found to be predetermined and the consultation was neither genuine nor in good faith. Also, NZ Steel failed to consider redeployment opportunities.
